DVD Review from people like you!

"Let's see... you really can't sum up stay hungry in one word, or even two words. Coming from watching Bad as Hell just about every day, sub-religiously sorta and being completely shocked and awed every time I watched it, to being completely blown away by Stay Hungry, it shows the progression you guys have made in this art form the public calls 'drifting'. You can definitely see the true East Coast style going on here. One foot on the gas one foot in the grave! Great job guys, hope to be out there soon competing with you guys." - Matt Dibenedetto

Ryan Tuerck takes 1st at NOPI Englishtown

What a weekend for Hampshaa and his team! Hampshaa came out swinging all weekend long laying down some impressive runs with tons of speed and angle. Not only was Hampshaa laying down the smoke, his kid brother Evan showed up in a primed black 240sx and qualified in 15th place. Both Hampshaa's battled it out in the first round and god damn can Evan drive! Evan was fast and fearless but not enough to take out Ryan. Hampshaa went up against another Solstice and knocked him out quickly with door-to-door tandem that you only see in the big leagues. In top 4 Hampshaa battled Forest and his S14. Apparently Forest was PHASED and Hampshaa moved on. The last round saw a one more time and after that stood one man..... HAMPSHAA!

Congrats to Ryan and his team for a kick ass weekend.

Some pic’s.......PHASED!!!!! Click on the picture for the full-size version for your background.

Drift Alliance Kills FD over the past 2 weeks.

Chris had a stellar performance at Formula Drift round one held on April 12th. The event was held in front of a sold-out crowd on the Streets of Downtown Long Beach. The NOS Energy Drink Nissan 350Z ran consistent all morning in practice, so it was no surprise when Chris placed 3rd in the morning's qualifying round.

“The car was running great all morning and I was feeling real comfortable on the track,” said Chris. His top qualifying placement put him in great position for the Top 16 tandem battles. Forsberg then barreled through Formula Drift veteran Conrad Grunewald, Japanese driver Kazu Hayashida, and Kyle Mohan to get into the final round. In the finals he was matched up against two-time Formula Drift champion, Samuel Hubinette. After two tough rounds of competition with Hubinette, Chris finally prevailed landing him on the top of the podium for his first win of the year, and the third podium in the last four consecutive events.

The following weekend Drift Alliance brothers Vaughn Gittin Jr., Tony Angelo and Chris Forsberg, competed in the Formula D Team Drift Challenge. The event was ran in conjunction with the Grand Prix of Long Beach which drew over 180,000 thousand spectators over the three days of competition. The Drift Alliance team ran flawlessly throughout the weekend, qualifying first with a near perfect score of 29 out of 30 making them the team to beat. Come race day they did not disappoint scoring another 29 and beating out the nearest competition by over 12 points giving Drift Alliance the win!

Tax day....but who cares!

This past weekend was unreal. It was so good that I have no idea what Atlanta could bring to beat it! I personally met JTP for the first time and that kid is a true gem. His RX-7 is sick and his driving style is straight bitching. His runs looked just as good as any other top 16 driver .... fact! Give this dude more time on these FD tracks and he will be a killer.

Joon Joon JOON! Holy Crap did that kid drive the pants off in the the S14. Big props to Joon, he will be a serious player in Atlanta.

Hampshaa shows up in a brand new Pontiac Solstice with a STOCK MOTOR, STOCK FUEL and STOCK TURBO and had more angle and style then some other "Solstice" we have seen in the past. Yes it was not super fast, but Hampshaa showed us all that the GXP can be a true drift machine with the right driver behind the wheel. After talking to his team we learned that the car will be going under the knife for Atlanta, and please get that car some sweet graphics already. Big ups to Gary and his team.

Tony has gotten his RX-8 dialed in so god-damn good it will make you sick! That car has crazy angle and awesome speed. His new setup is fierce and he will soon be smoking you all out in Atlanta.

JR was also making the smoke smoke. His new Mustang is still in the works but the old one still looks good. He is always pedal to the metal.

Chris also showed up with some goodies. A new rig and a worked 350Z. Same car as last year but Kevin Wells made some changes. Chris was killing his way to first place on Saturday. He went up against Sam for top spot and managed to lay down the law in Long Beach. A one more time turned into a mistake by Sam which gave Chris the win. Congrats!

DA ACE Ameen...

"Basically it was my local team called the SL-kids.. (Ronald Chan, Alex Berrios and myself). We had a new paint scheme going on with the blue with flake and the yellow headlights and white wheels. We were doing awesome during practice and getting super close within a few feet to each other. Competition starts. We head out and around the second turn I do a clutch kick and GRENADE the tranny. Jumped in a borrowed car, but it wasn't the same and we got third. Hence the pic of the disappointing victory."- Ameen

Thanks for the NEWS Ameen!

He's rocking the Aces hoodie too. They also took the Team Drift - 1st place Team Facial – Miki Frial, Aaron Suarez and Chris Mendoza.

Taken from our brothers at Driftlive a small recap of the event.

The 2008 Season of TOPDRIFT Federal cup 2008 has officially started!

After an 80% precipitation chances of rain at the tracks, we had to make a quick decision to switch up the tracks for Round 1. The competition was moved from the Horse Thief Mile to the Balcony.

IMG_0869.jpg

We want action, but we want it to be safe! We at JD never compromise safety. Drivers started rolling in at 7AM, track was almost ready by 8AM. Everything went really smooth! A few rain drops, but nothing big! The track was cold most of the time.

The event had a good turnout, there were new faces, including some new skilled drivers, seasoned JD veteran drivers, and some drivers who attended the JustDrift Federal Clinic and got a push from their instructors to compete. Compete they did, with awesome results!

The main judges for 2008 are Hiro Sumida and Taka Aono, but due to prior commitment, Taka was not able to make the first event. In his place was last year's series champion Henry Schelley and a guest judge from D1/Option Video, Daijiro Inada.

The skill level of playing field is very wide for 2008, but it’s anybody’s game at this point. Some of the seasoned drivers suffered upsets at the hands of freshmen competitors such as Danny Chen. In the past, Danny was not a fan of competition. He’s a true driver who just wants to drift. He is a member of Pink Godzira, a Los Angeles based drift team. He is always being pushed to compete by his friends and team members. Now, Danny has made a promise to finish the whole series.

The inaugural champion Justin Pawlak wasn’t able to do a come back for Round One due to mechanical problem - he blew his motor in practice. Forest Wang, last year's 2nd seed is back to win the whole series. He too had minor problems with his car, but that didn't’t stop him from getting what he wanted.

Top 16 was very interesting, a lot of new names and faces on the board. We had a 2 two-way ties, one on top and one on the bottom. The drivers are stepping up their game and everyone wants to win! So the traditional top 16 had 17 drivers coming into top 8. The very notable driver that made to top 8 is Carl Rydquist, his first drift event in a stock Z33 was the day before the competition. But Carl is a seasoned racecar driver who is making the jump to drifting. The next up and comer, San Diego regular, Matt Powers came home with 3rd place in Round One.

Top 16 qualifiers were:

Top 8 tandem battle is exciting as ever! We also had the JD Tradition Team Tandem (3 car team) The team that came out on top of the Team Tandem Battle was Team Facial – Miki Frial, Aaron Suarez and Chris Mendoza.

When the drivers get in to TOP8, it seems like a different competition all together. They reset to their competition mode and get in to the kick ass zone.

TOP 8 ladders:
RD 1

RD 2

RD3

The event went smooth as always, the JD staff was on top of things as usual. Track and time was used up wisely and productively. Sponsors were on hand to watch the competition. Everything lined up! After all the smoke was clear, there can only be one winner. Forest Wang took first place, a seasoned JD driver that had finish Podium in most of TOPDRIFT 2007. Second place went to Danny Chen, his first year in competition and 3rd went to Matt Powers, a semi Regular JD driver from San Diego.

I would like to thank all our sponsors for helping us with making this event enjoyable!
Federal Tires, Megan Racing, Apexi USA, Kaaz USA, Driftlive, Citytiresonline, Ctuneracing, Baker Precision, HPS, Momentum GT, and all the peeps at Ziptied!

Angelo and Tuerck Sign up with Maxxis Tire

Mooresville, NC (Feb. 21, 2008) Ryan “Hampshaa” Tuerck and Tony “Hurricane” Angelo have just announced they will be making the switch to Maxxis Tire for the 2008 Formula Drift Championship. Although they will no longer be running under the banner of “Team Snakebite” both drivers independently have chosen to make the switch after seeing the stellar performance the Maxxis Z1-Drift tire has proven to be over the last year of competition.

“The Maxxis Z1 Drift is an amazing tire.” said Tuerck, “They last forever and hold up to the abuse of drifting with no chunking, no matter how hot you get them or what surface you are on.” Tuerck has also announced his new 2008 car will be a GM Racing backed Pontiac Solstice GXP built by his new team Gardella Racing. “I am excited to get into something new. I feel like I needed a new challenge and the Solstice GXP has brought that.” continued Tuerck. Ryan will be starting the year in a seeded position which is quite an accomplishment after the continuous mechanical failures that plagued him in 2007. “After getting some seat time, I feel the Solstice is going to be very reliable during competition, I know that the Gardella Racing crew will do everything they can to make this car competitive and reliable on the track.”

Tony is equally excited to begin the 2008 Formula Drift Championship after joining Maxxis Tire team and renewing a long term relationship with Mazda. “I was blown away by the performance of the Maxxis Z1 Drift Tire last year.” said Angelo “When I was given an opportunity to run that tire on such a talented and promising team for 2008, I just couldn't say no.” Tony is looking to better his top ten finishes last year competing in his current Mazda RX-8 for the first few events of 2008 while he builds his new RX-8 with the technical assistance of Mazda and its motorsports division Mazdaspeed. “I'm very excited to be debuting my brand new RX-8 from Mazda,” said Angelo, “It will greatly exceed the current cars performance envelope, with a non turbo 3 rotor engine, revised suspension, and extensive lightening of the chassis; it will be a killing machine.”

Maxxis Tire’s 2008 Drift Team line up will be supported by Chris Forsberg Racing’s new support rig allowing the teams to have a central area for technical support and assistance with major repairs when needed. “This year, Maxxis has really made an effort to focus their resources on what will be their strongest (drift) team ever.” stated Angelo, ”I couldn't be more proud to be surrounded by so many fellow Drift Alliance drivers in this years line-up.”
